Introduced in 2017, Kashf piloted the Kashf Mahweshi Karza to specifically help livestock managers (female) involved in dairy and meat production facing credit constraints. Through this initiative, Kashf is building a strong value chain that involves credit, livestock insurance, and animal husbandry training. Innovative and tailored to the needs and capacities of small-scale rural women, the Foundation has established a branch in the village of Adda Khui Wala, near Harrapa, to test Kashf Maweshi Karza. Kashf plans to bring this product to 9 other locations by June 2019.
Kashf’s holistic approach through this loan product focuses on both improving animal productivity, mitigating risks, and improving returns for livestock producers.
One of the beneficiary of the kashaf mahweshi karza says that she had taken a loan from Kashf to buy an animal for milking – before that she only had one grown buffalo when it was not milking her household income was not enough in those months to sustain her household expenses. At that time she have an animal in milking, and in the months where both animals are milking she have more surplus milk to trade to the milk collector” Irshad Bibi, Sahiwal.
